CHARTER
The CGOC is a community of experts in retention and preservation. Its charter is to create a forum in which legal and compliance executives can get the insight, interaction, and information they need to make good business decisions. It fulfills its charter through:
- Working groups
- Executive education
- Quarterly journal and other publications
- Annual CGOC Summit
CGOC participation is limited to corporate managers and executives with responsibilities for litigation, discovery, and retention and records management and to outside counsel and professionals who have specific expertise in these areas. The founding community of CGOC experts includes Adam Cohen, co-author of Electronic Discovery: Law and Practice and a partner at Weil Gotshal, Kevin Brady, partner at Connolly Bove and a member of the Delaware commission on e-discovery, Lisa Sotto, partner at Hunton & Williams and Vice Chair, Department of Homeland Security Data Privacy and Integrity Advisory Committee, and other noted experts. The organization was founded by Deidre Paknad, CEO of PSS Systems and a visionary in retention and preservation solutions, to create a continuing, high quality executive-level exchange of expertise and information on these fast-changing business issues.
PROGRAMS
Through working lunches and special interest groups, the CGOC provides a venue for small-group discussions and engagement on specific issues. Participation in these sessions is typically comprised of 80% corporate counsel, records, and IT executives and 20% outside counsel. Sessions are chaired by a team of subject matter experts to set the stage for active discussion on key topics; practice guidelines and recommendations typically result from these sessions.
Focused on high-level changes in the legal landscape or practice standards, executive sessions are generally half-day events with distinguished guest experts who provide a comprehensive overview of the topic.
The CGOC Summit is an annual conference of retention and preservation stakeholders held in January. Comprised of presentations from thought leaders, break out sessions on diverse topics, and a memorable dinner of professional peers, the Summit sets the tone for the coming year with its expert speakers and stakeholders.
PUBLICATIONS
The CGOC Review is a hallmark CGOC publication. Each issue includes articles authored by the leading experts on discovery, retention, and compliance very often including detailed legal discussions of requirements or changes.
Through bulletins and newsletters, CGOC publishes the results of its working groups and executive events as well as alerts its constituency to important issues and advancements.
